Socially-Responsible Investing, or SRI for short, attempts to avoid this conflict by screening out
companies that injure our planet or society. For example, companies that do unnecessary testing on
animals, produce weaponry, pollute the environment, espouse unfair labor practices, or are involved
with other harmful activities. Desirable are those companies that promote positive policies and are
open to suggestions from shareholders on how to improve their stewardship.
